I Left My Heart in San Francisco

I had a great workation with the family in San Francisco this week. Feel free to peruse my photo collection. Haight-Ashbury Yes, that’s right. The place where the Summer of Love was born. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane. I was delighted to stumble upon Borderlands Books, a bookstore that’s legendary among science fiction and fantasy writers. It was first of several iconic bookstores we visited. Golden Gate Bridge I had crossed the Golden Gate Bridge a couple of times back in 2018, but this was the first time I walked across. Its grandeur as an engineeringContinue readingI Left My Heart in San Francisco

Demon for Hire – How it’s Going

Whaddaya know, I’m a filmmaker now! All these festival placements are starting to make me think it’s real. Demon for Hire had its World Premiere on October 9 at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon, and I must say, sitting there in the audience, it was beautiful. It was incredibly gratifying to hear a live audience laugh when they were supposed to, go eww! when they were supposed to. We must have done a few things right in the making of this little beastie. And now it’s just been selected for its second festival appearance, the Days ofContinue readingDemon for Hire – How it’s Going

Legend of the Ronin Issue #3 is LIVE

Among the many things the pandemic derailed was my comic book series Legend of the Ronin, which is adapted from my Ronin novels, with pencils and inks by Ramón Pérez, colors by João Rodri, and cover art by Wayne Tanaka. I feel so fortunate to have these amazing artists lend their talents to this project. Amazon just rolled out a cool new feature for Kindle users called Guided View, which makes comics way more readable on an electronic device, because it automatically zooms in on each panel so that you can read it easily. Previously the text on a full comic book page was too smallContinue readingLegend of the Ronin Issue #3 is LIVE

Coming Soon – DEMON FOR HIRE!

A lot has happened since my last post, the one about Ruminations on Time. Something must have clicked, because I’ve been in high gear pretty much ever since. In late February, I decided to make a movie, so I sat down and hammered out the first draft of a script that became Demon for Hire, a horror-comedy short about a fuzzy blue demon — a puppet — who helps mortals with their problems while he corrupts them to the Dark Side. I’m making my first short film, a horror-comedy called Demon for Hire. Rather than tell you about the projectContinue readingComing Soon – DEMON FOR HIRE!

Just breathe…

Writer’s Block And Procrastination “If you get stuck, get away from your desk. Take a walk, take a bath, go to sleep, make a pie, draw, listen to music, meditate, exercise; whatever you do, don’t just stick there scowling at the problem. But don’t make telephone calls or go to a party; if you do, other people’s words will pour in where your lost words should be. Open a gap for them, create a space. Be patient.” Hilary Mantel Most writers have struggled with getting the words on the page at some point. But writer’s block is not a monolithicContinue readingJust breathe…
