{"id":1373,"date":"2018-03-13T22:17:20","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T04:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/travisheermann.com\/blog\/?p=1373"},"modified":"2018-03-15T13:26:13","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T19:26:13","slug":"screenplay-wins-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travisheermann.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/13\/screenplay-wins-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Screenplay Wins Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the weekend of February 16-18, 2018, I had the great pleasure of attending the Famous Monsters Silver Scream Festival in Santa Rosa, CA.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a monster geek from way back, so it was total thrill to be hanging out with film industry people and geeking out about horror films. I got to meet several icons of horror cinema: Ricou Browning, the\u00a0<em>Creature from the Black Lagoon<\/em>, who was celebrating his 88th birthday that weekend; John Russo, the screenwriter on <em>Night of the Living Dead<\/em>; Jackie Kong, director of the cult classic\u00a0<em>Blood Diner;<\/em> Kelli Maroney, actress in such horror classics as\u00a0<em>Chopping Mall<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Night of the Comet<\/em>; and Barbara Crampton, who starred in two of my favorite horror films,\u00a0<em>Re-Animator<\/em> and\u00a0<em>From Beyond<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The capper, however, was that my &#8220;steampunk heart of darkness&#8221; screenplay,\u00a0<em>Where the Devil Resides<\/em>, won the award for BEST HORROR\/FANTASY SCREENPLAY.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m so gratified to the contest organizers for putting on such a great event.
