Short\nstories coming out later this year, novels being written, screenplays in the\nworks. The wheels are churnin\u2019, the still is cookin\u2019, the juices are flowin\u2019.\nAll that I\u2019m learning how to play blues guitar, which has been a ton of fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the fiction front, I need your help with something very\nimportant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have just launched a new Kickstarter to fund the\npublication of a new novel, <em>The Hammer\nFalls.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Hammer Falls<\/em>\nis a dystopian science-fiction action extravaganza. Imagine <em>Gladiator<\/em> meets <em>The Wrestler<\/em> and <em>Sin City<\/em>\nwith a cyberpunk twist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a world fallen into corporate oligarchy, pit fighters\nrepresent the &#8220;bread and circuses&#8221; doled out to the masses. It is a\nworld of cyber-security, ubiquitous surveillance, and environmental\ndegradation. Technology allows the pit fighters to regenerate horrific wounds,\neven death, and come back week after week for hordes of screaming fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Horace &#8220;The Hammer&#8221; Harkness is a pit fighter\ntwenty years past his prime. After several years on the skids, he successfully\nstages a massive comeback bout, but to do so he has to borrow money from a\nruthless Russian mob. When they threaten his would-be girlfriend Lilly if he\ndoesn&#8217;t repay his debt, he kills the gangsters involved&#8230; only to discover\nthat their leader was the mob boss&#8217;s son. Horace must go on the run to save\nhimself, Lilly, and her children, from a relentless, ruthless foe. He falls in\nwith traveling pit-fighter road show that includes a rainbow ninja girl and an\nex-con cyberpath. With their help, he might just be able to turn the tables on\na global mafia organization, or else he\u2014and those he cares about\u2014are doomed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For as little as the price of a good cup of coffee, you can\nhelp bring this project to fruition. I\u2019ve got some of the costs already\ncovered, which is why the goal is so low. I\u2019m running this campaign lean and\nmean, and hoping it blossoms into something awesome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We always hope to catch lightning in a bottle, right? You\ncan help do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to think of a Kickstarter is that you\u2019re buying\nthe book in advance, especially if it\u2019s something that\u2019s right up your alley\nfrom an author you know, AND you\u2019re helping bring it into the world. I\u2019ve found\nthere\u2019s definite satisfaction in that. <em>You<\/em>\nhelped make the project happen. If you\u2019re a Kickstarter backer like I tend to\nbe, you know what I\u2019m talking about.
