Lawrence M. Schoen is an author friend and colleague who published my novella Where the Devil Resides<\/em> in his wonderful anthology series Alembical<\/em> a few years back. He’s also a doctor of psychology and the author of a series of SF novels about anthropomorphic elephants, called Barsk.<\/em> One would not expect novels about anthropomorphic critters to be as weighty and thoughtful as these, but they have things to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s been a rougher year for him than many, as he’s been fighting cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He can also say “F*(# cancer!” in fluent Klingon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to tell you about a cool project Lawrence is working on. For several years, he’s been running an interview series where authors get to talk about the most memorable meals they’ve ever had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, he’s compiling those interviews into a charity book, and running a Kickstarter campaign to fund its publication<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s an even cooler part. 100% of the profits from the book go to charity, half to fund cancer research and half to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) Medical Fund, which helps authors with medical expenses (as we often can’t get or afford insurance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
