{"id":686,"date":"2012-06-07T04:04:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-07T04:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/travisheermann.com\/blog\/?p=686"},"modified":"2012-06-22T01:07:02","modified_gmt":"2012-06-22T01:07:02","slug":"great-review-for-snakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travisheermann.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/07\/great-review-for-snakes\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Review for &#8220;Snakes&#8221;!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was reminded today of how powerful the written word can be&#8211;not just once, but <em>twice<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The first came when I heard of the passing of a writer who had changed my life&#8211;Ray Bradbury. <em>Fahrenheit 451 <\/em>remains a life-changing book for me, and I can say nothing at this point to do justice to his memory, except to say that his work changed me, inspired me, and shaped how I live my life.<\/p>\n<p>The second instance turned my day around. I have gotten good reviews before (and oh, yes, some bad ones, too.) Of course I enjoy the good ones, but I appreciate the bad ones, too.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\" target=\"_blank\">Goodreads <\/a>reviewer Rose Cimarron wrote a double-edged review for <em>Snakes, <\/em>a very double-edged story.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/englishrosec.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/02\/snakes-review\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here&#8217;s part 1. <\/a> As I said, double-edged.<\/p>\n<p>What struck me about her review was that she spent almost a month ruminating over the story, and then felt compelled to write <em>more<\/em>. <a href=\"http:\/\/englishrosec.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/05\/snakes-by-travis-heermann-a-further-review-and-more-thoughts\/#comment-98\" target=\"_blank\">Here&#8217;s part 2.<\/a> That, to me, is the sign that the story had a real impact, and that is what every writer lives for.<\/p>\n\n<!-- Facebook Like Button v1.9.6 BEGIN [http:\/\/blog.bottomlessinc.com] -->\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Ftravisheermann.com%2Fblog%2F2012%2F06%2F07%2Fgreat-review-for-snakes%2F&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height: 30px; align: left; margin: 2px 0px 2px 0px\"><\/iframe>\n<!-- Facebook Like Button END -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was reminded today of how powerful the written word can be&#8211;not just once, but twice.
