Ruminations on Time

This all sort of came to me this week when I was journaling, and it’s something that’s often on my mind–ruminations on time. The things we spend our lives doing. Are they worthy? Will they make us proud in the end? Are we building things? Feeding people? Educating people? Saving people? Healing people? Delving into the secrets of the universe? Touching people with art and music?

Cooking with Cat – Steamed Pork Buns are the Food of the Gods

Back when I was living in Japan, about 2003-2006, one of the foods that I fell in love with was nikuman ???, steamed pork buns. They could be found in any convenience store, and they made a great meal for someone who didn’t feel like cooking. They come with various fillings: pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, veggie, even sweet custard. They are particularly comforting when the weather turns chilly and they’re all steamy and warm. I was planning a vacation to Japan with the family in March 2020. We’d been planning it for years, and it would have been the firstContinue readingCooking with Cat – Steamed Pork Buns are the Food of the Gods

Eat Your Favorite Author…on Toast!

Noooo, eat with your favorite author. 🙂 Lawrence M. Schoen is an author friend and colleague who published my novella Where the Devil Resides in his wonderful anthology series Alembical a few years back. He’s also a doctor of psychology and the author of a series of SF novels about anthropomorphic elephants, called Barsk. One would not expect novels about anthropomorphic critters to be as weighty and thoughtful as these, but they have things to say. It’s been a rougher year for him than many, as he’s been fighting cancer. He can also say “F*(# cancer!” in fluent Klingon. I want to tell you about a cool projectContinue readingEat Your Favorite Author…on Toast!

Adventure Kids #6 – Preston and the Great Airship Caper

I really enjoy writing books for middle-grade. It lets my imagination fly like it did when I was eleven.  I just released the sixth book in my Adventure Kids series, Preston and the Great Airship Caper. Because who didn’t want to fly like Superman or Supergirl when they were a kid? Look! Up in the sky! Preston loves taking care his family’s farm animals, especially the little ones, like puppies and kittens. But when all the animals suddenly disappear, he realizes there must be some serious skulduggery afoot!Being turned into a superhero isn’t what he was expecting today, but a dusting ofContinue readingAdventure Kids #6 – Preston and the Great Airship Caper

STRAIGHT OUTTA DEADWOOD Rides Again!

This time in mass market paperback! I’m super-proud of my short story “Blood Lust and Gold Dust” in Baen Books’ weird western anthology, Straight Outta Deadwood, even more so now that the mass market paperback has hit the streets. I was so happy to take part in the Baen Podcast recently with several of the authors from the anthology. When the episode goes live, I’ll be sure to post a link. Great fun with authors Charlaine Harris (I really enjoyed HBO’s True Blood and her Sookie Stackhouse novels), D.J. Butler, Betsy Dornbusch, and editor David Boop. First there was Straight Outta Tombstone.  NowContinue readingSTRAIGHT OUTTA DEADWOOD Rides Again!
